- Welcome

The United Kingdom Association of Fee Paid Judges - the UKAFPJ

We are an association of Fee Paid Judges, (in the Courts as opposed to tribunal judges) coming together to share our experiences and to promote the function of the fee paid judge. We respond to consultations and keep our members informed of developments. We are members of the Judges’ Council.

There are 3,210 salaried and fee-paid court judges in England and Wales.

- What we do

The UKAFPJ aims to promote greater understanding and better resolution of issues facing fee paid judges, and in particular:

Encourage co-operation and collaboration among fee paid judges
Increase understanding about fee paid judges, their numbers, the processes by which they are selected, the barriers which may interfere with their selection and career progression with a view to achieving a judiciary which more accurately reflects the population it serves
Increase understanding of the broad range of social, economic, psychological and cultural factors that influence fee paid judges appointments and careers in the court system
Increase understanding of the role of the judiciary and to promote and protect the rights of fee paid judges; and to respond to relevant consultations affecting fee paid judges
